What a whirlwind way to wrap up 2015!   After several years working as a social enterprise, we decided to become a nonprofit to further our goal of providing a Christ-centered, sheltered work place for women struggling with addictions, abuse, poverty and homelessness. We were granted nonprofit status in November, and are now in a position to take tax deductible donations to further our ministry of giving a helping hand to women in distress.

In October we developed a new collaboration with Clerestory, a Christian nonprofit dedicated to helping people get back into the workforce.   They are a phenomenal ministry with a clear vision of what it takes to help people out of the poverty trap. We are participating in their Jobs for Life program for the women of WellHouse, a ministry devoted to helping women get off the streets.

We have partnered with several shelters over the course of the years to provide jobs for their residents, and this was our first experience with WellHouse.   We provided internships for two of their residents during the Christmas holiday season. Both women were wonderful and, due to their enthusiasm and hard work, we had record sales this year!   We are so grateful to Leo and Janet Joseph and Joseph and Company Inc. for donating a beautiful “pop up” workroom for us to use during the holidays.

We are exploring ways to continue our relationship with Clerestory so that we can more effectively prepare women for a successful transition from darkness to light, from hopelessness to hope, from despair to victory. I’ll keep you posted!

We’ve had several new successful experiences this year, to include our booth at Pepper Place Market. The folks at Pepper Place do an excellent job marketing the venue to bring in the crowds for booth sales. Thanks to the hard work of Belinda and Nina, our master bakers, our mini-loaves sold like hotcakes! In addition to our signature flavor, Brandied Apple Spice, we offered a Chocolate Gingerbread and Cranberry Orange Nut. We’re working on yummy Spring flavors and will introduce them soon. We also met many kind and giving people with a heart to help. Thank you Pepper Place Market!

Another first was our participation in the Mountain Brook Holiday Open House, thanks to Jo Ann Long of the DandeLion Shop.   It was a great experience and, again, we sold out!

As we journey into 2016, our prayer is to continue helping women out of despair and hopelessness.   Your support is so critical to us, whether you donate to the ministry, volunteer or buy our products with a purpose. Please know how much we appreciate your generosity and compassion for women in difficult situations. May we, through the grace and power of God and His son and our Savior, Jesus Christ, shine light into a dark world.

Blessings to you,

Marsha Drennen
